Using Notes to Gather Important Links

On your day to day restaurant operations, you must likely deal with a lot of web pages for different services, from your produce supplier to external resources you host in places other than Cuttinboard. Let's have a quick overview on how you can use the Notes app to organize your links.

Organizing links your managers need to access regularly

Managers need to perform daily tasks that require visiting different web pages and URLs. For example:

  • Ordering Produce
  • Ordering Equipment
  • Ordering Utensils
  • Using different Web Apps

The amount of different links can be overwhelming to memorize. Managers, especially new ones, end up having to call coworkers to be remembered on how to access certain places on the web, but there is no need for this.

Create a Linked to Positions Notes Board and name it "Links for Managers". Create Notes with the names or description of the link (for example "Ordering Produce", "Doing the Inventory") and paste the link on the Note. Your managers won't get lost anymore trying to remember the name of the store to order produce.

Creating a Library of Videos in a Notes Board

Let's say you have a library of training videos your staff needs to have access to. You could upload them to the Files App but most likely this will consume a good chunk of your storage capacity. The sound thing to do is to host these video in a site such as Youtube, Google Drive, or the one of your choosing and create a Notes Board that is Open for Everyone where you post these links. For example:

Creating a Library of Web Docs

Documents are extremely important when it comes to storing knowledge and setting culture. Sometimes, you have this documents hosted on the web in a place such as Google Docs, Microsoft Office online, or Google Drive. These documents have a link that you can post in a Notes Board as per below:

Creating a Notes Board with external educational resources

When it comes to the hospitality industry, there are many educational resources online, from videos to blog posts, that can make the professional much better at what they do. It is probably a good idea to create an Open for everyone Notes Board titled Educational Resources. In this board, we will link to the following resources:

  • A video that teaches about the concept of First In First Out,
  • A blog post that talks about the importance of wearing non-slip shoes in the restaurant environment
  • An slideshow educating people about good hygiene practices and how to properly wash hands
  • A video on how to offer great customer service

If you want to be more specific, and offer educational resources to specific positions, let's say cooks, just create a Notes Board that is Linked to Positions and select the Cook position. Here you can upload documentation that will make your cooks way more effective. Depending on your menu, your restaurant and the skills it require, you can upload resources teaching How to Cut Tuna, How to Properly Clean the Grill, How to Safely Use Knives, What are the Cooking Temperatures, or How to Sharpen a Knife.
